7 Reasons Why You Should Play the WPT Online Championship at Partypoker

Since early July, we’ve been covering some of the key happenings in the ongoing World Series of Poker (WSOP) online bracelet series that started at WSOP.com and made its way to GGPoker. Now another major online festival is about to kick off – the World Poker Tour (WPT) Online Championship.

The huge festival will again take place on partypoker, following the highly successful WPT Online Series in May. The main highlight of the series is the 12 Championship events, with huge prize money up for grabs, but apart from that, the festival has many interesting aspects that will motivate you to get in on the action and hunt for championship glory.

1. WPT Online Championship Guarantees $100 Million

The upcoming festival features a whopping $100 million guaranteed, across over a month of online action, $16 million of that will go to the Main Event. It’s not every day you’re given the chance to win a slice of a guaranteed prize pool this big, so why not give it a shot?

2. Leaderboard Promo To Boost Your Winnings

As if $100 million in prize money wasn’t enough, the WPT and partypoker will also be running two leaderboard promos throughout the festival – the WPT Players Championship (for Championship events with a minimum buy-in of $300) which will reward $75,000 in additional cash to the final topper, and the WPT Rising Star (for events with an entry fee of less than $300) where you can win a slice of prize money totalling $25,000.

3. Only 12 Championship Events to Compete in

The schedule consists of dozens of events, but only 12 of them will award championship trophies, making your championship win even more prestigious. These events are spread out in different formats each week, making the competition more fun and exciting. Among the formats featured are PLO, 8-Max, 6-Max, Mix-Max, Knockout, and more.

4. Real Names Will Be on Display

The organisers want to ensure that they bring the taste of live poker to the virtual felts by requiring players to use their real names when playing. This means you’ll have full knowledge of who you’re playing against as each of your names will be published for everyone to see throughout the festival. Alias are no longer allowed, and that’s a welcome change.

5. Low Rake in Championship Events

For players, the less rake, the better. And this is actually the case in Championship events, with rake not surpassing 7%. Under certain circumstances, you can even compete in some events without having to deal with rake, through the $10,000 PP LIVE Passport.

If you manage to win your own PP LIVE Passport, you can use it to enter the Main Event, with the $300 tournament fee waived. The same applies to other Championship events if you use your PP LIVE Passport to participate.

6. Win Your Way Into the WPT Tournament of Champions

Here’s another reason for you to consider playing in the upcoming series – you can win tickets to the prestigious WPT Tournament of Champions for a chance to become a member of the exclusive Champions Club!

The winners of the $10,300 Main Event, $3,200 6-Max, 8-Max, Knockout, and Mix-Max will each win a $15K championship package, which you shouldn’t miss if you fancy joining the ranks of Daniel Strelitz, Alex Foxen, Oleg Vasylchenko, and Mike Sexton.

7. Single Re-registration Policy for Championship Events

Over the past few years, there’s been a strong push for single re-entry and freeze tournaments, as online poker increasingly leans towards unlimited entry and re-entry. Well, the 12 Championship events will feature single re-entry, with late registrations also being cut.

This is definitely great news for those who miss old-school poker. Not only will it add more thrill to the competition, it will also provide a level playing field for all participants.

The festival will run from 17 July to 8 September. More details are available on the WPT and partypoker websites.
